The mission of this program is to provide training in proper operation of machine tools standard to the trade such as the lathe, milling machine, band saw, grinder, drill press, etc. Instruction is given in blueprint reading, layout work, bench work, trigonometry and geometry.

FUNDAMENTALS OF MACHINE TOOL A

(MTT110)

Credit:  1                                                             

Grade Level:  9-12

This course provides the basic principles needed for a solid foundation in machine tool technology. Areas and machines covered include shop safety, bench work, drill press, power saw, measurement, mills and lathes. This course is offered as dual credit with KCTCS for grades 11-12.

 

Fundamentals of Machine Tool B 

(MTT112)

Credit:  1                                             

Grade Level:  10-12

Prerequisite: MTT 110 Fundamentals of Machine

Tool A

Applied Machining I (MTT120)

Prerequisite: MTT112 Fundamentals of Machine

Tool B 

Applications in milling, lathe, bench work, and utilizing gauge blocks and the sine bar are covered in this course. Surface grinding and abrasives are introduced and properties of metals are discussed.

 

Applied Machining II (MTT122)

Credit:  1                                                                 

Grade Level:  10-12

Prerequisite:  Applied Machining I 

Applications in milling, lathe, bench work, and utilizing gauge blocks and the sine bar are covered in this course. Surface grinding and abrasives are introduced and properties of metals are discussed.

 

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING (DFT122)

Credit:  1

Grade Level:  9-12

This course will focus on basic drafting principles for irregular and basic shapes to full print layouts including 3-D, isometric and design of individual projects.

 

CAD/CAM/CNC (MTT132)

Credit:  1                                                             
Grade Level:  9-12

This course introduces the student to CAD/CAM/CNC systems. The student will utilize process planning, manual programming and CAD/CAM for CNC equipment. This student will load a CNC program and set tool and work offsets, and machine part.

 

CAD/CAM/CNC II (IEX293 SP)

Credit: 1

Grade Level: 10-12

Prerequisite: CAD/CAM/CNC

This course is focused more on CAM and CNC.  In the first class, more emphasis is placed on how to draw. In this course, the basis drawing has already been covered so more focus can be on the machining of parts.  The students will utilize process planning, manual and computer assisted programming and CAD/CAM for different CNC equipment.  The students will load multiple CNC programs and set tools and offsets on multiple CNC Machines.

 

CO-OP I (MTT199)

Credit:  1 (1 Block, 1 Semester)                                     

Grade Level:  11-12

Prerequisite: 5 Credits of Machine Tool Technology

Co-op provides supervised on-the-job work experience related to the student's educational objectives. Students participating in the Co-op Education program receive compensation for their work.

 

CO-OP II (MTT299)

Credit:  2 (2 Blocks, 1 Semester OR 1 Block all year)

Grade:  11-12

Prerequisite: Completion of MTT CO-OP I  

Co-op provides supervised on-the-job work experience related to the student's educational objectives. Students participating in the Co-op Education program receive compensation for their work.

 

CO-OP III (MTT499)

Credit:  4 (2 Blocks, 2 Semesters)                                 

Grade Level:  12

Prerequisite: Completion of MTT CO-OP II  

Co-op provides supervised on-the-job work experience related to the student's educational objectives. Students participating in the Co-op Education program receive compensation for their work.

 

PRACTICUM I (MTT198)

Credit:  1 (1 Block, 1 Semester)

Grade Level:  11-12

Prerequisite:  Teacher Approval

This course provides on the job work experience in machine tool.

 

PRACTICUM II (MTT298)

Credit:  2 (2 Blocks, 1 Semester OR 1 Block all year)
